Harley Davidson Sportster 48 Ride from 116th to 34th Along the East Rive...

This the direct link to the Youtube video for this Blog.

Hi 48ers,
Once traffic freed up on the FDR East River Drive it was a smooth ride from 116th to 37th street. I was able to go....., it makes me laugh to write it. At least 25 to 30mph which is quick on a week day to go into the city. I had just got away from the gridlock traffic of 138th street so 25mph was like was flying on the highway at 60mph at that point. The FDR does offer beautiful views of Manhattan and allot of the bridges only found on the east side of the city heading toward Queens and Brooklyn on route downtown.

I am going to pick a holiday to actually ride it all the way down to the Brooklyn bridge sooner or later, because that will be the only day that i would be able to catch it on a 15 to 20 min video. I am sorry to say that more motorcycle fatalities happen on the FDR than on any other drive in New York city. Maybe its because it is a tight and close drive or cages (When i say cages i mean cars) are being aggressive, new riders thinking it is simple road with no knowledge of the horrible road or some idiot that is doing something that he isn't supposed to at an increasingly fast speed.

The Fdr has it's faults too. Serious indentations, cracks, bumps and imperfections not to mention when it rain becomes possibly the most horrible ride in New York State. I won't just blame the drivers and riders. When faced with a wedge of road that makes you feel like you have no control of your bike and you are seems as tho you are heading for a divider and stomach starts turning nerves kick in ( something motorcycle riders know to well) The road is to take part blame.

Nerves, allot practice and quick thinking is what has me still standing today. The FDR has beat me up a little in my infancy of riding but today i respect it and i am very cautious whenever i am on it.
